  49. The difference, as I have been lead to believe it, is that Mac owners
  50. can buy Mac ROMs from Apple dealers.  ST owners cannot buy disk based
  51. TOS from ANYWHERE.  Am I wrong?  Where CAN I buy it?

  74. pc_ddrvr.sys is a TSR program supplied with PC-Ditto to allow ATARI
  75. partitions D,E,F etc to be accessed from MS/DOS running under the
  76. emulater.  It has no other magical properties.

  91. Are there any database packages for the ST that allow you to access the
  92. database through C programs (like Btrieve, etc. for the PC's)?  I would like
  93. to use an SQL database if possible.  The only SQL db for the ST that I have
  94. heard of is RegentBase.  Does it provide these C 'hooks' that I need?  Or is
  95. this a lost cause for ST development?

  113. I am having several problems with my (DS internal) floppy drive. It
  114. seems that if I don't access the drive for several minutes it
  115. stops working. For example, if I double click on a folder the
  116. file listing becomes corrupt (the disk does not spin). If I
  117. pop the disk out and replace it, it works fine (unless I don't
  118. access it for awhile). I ran VKILLER 2.2 on my boot disk, no
  119. virus. By the way I have a z-time clock chip installed under
  120. one of the roms (ver. 1.2) with software in the auto folder to drive
  121. it.
  122. Also, when I pop a disk out of the floppy drive the button pops
  123. out as if there is a disk still in it. In order to put in another
  124. disk I have to hold the eject button in until the disk is inserted.
  125. How can I fix this!

  180. Greg, the problem is one of timing. By the time Atari got the TOS 1.4 PROMs
  181. out, and notice that they are PROMS not ROMs, bugs had already been identified
  182. and repaired by hackers. Since, the offical TOS ROMs still haven't been
  183.  released,
  184. it is not unreasonable to hope that Atari would fix the known bugs before
  185.  releasing
  186. them. I just hate to see TOS 1.4 start off with a bunch of auto folder patches!!
  187. And there is still no legal way to buy TOS 1.4 in 100 ns EPROMs so that the
  188. Turbo16 can run at full speed. T16 can be setup to access the TOS memory without
  189. wait states if the memory is quick enough. Hence the need for 100 ns EPROMs.
  190. If Atari was selling TOS in ROMs it might be possible to buy them in 100ns
  191. roms. who knows??

  200. Greg, the user already needs an auto folder patch for the TOS 1.4 that is being
  201. sold by Atari. How many more patches will be needed over the next six months??

  216. And finally, Greg, I have stopped asking Dave Small for a 300 dpi QuickDraw
  217. driver for the SLM804. As you have just said it appears to be too hard for
  218. Dave Small, or anyone else, to develop. So, whose fault is it?? Atari?? Apple??
  219. GBS?? All I know is that when I bought my Spectre 128 from Dave Small in Sept
  220. 1988, Dave said that he would provide a 300 dpi driver for the SLM804 laser
  221. printer. And now over a year later it has proven to be an impossible task.
  222. The best that Dave can do is 144 dpi, which is basically just draft printing
  223. on a 300 dpi laser printer. so, while I am not satisified with the Spectre
  224. printer driver for the SLM804, at least I know that Dave gave it his best
  225. shot!! So, I am NOT flaming GBS. I am just waiting for GBS to release the
  226. Spectre version 2.0 software so that I can use my SLM804 laser printer in
  227. 144 dpi mode.

  251. I've had my Atari since almost day one (before 1st word was invented) and
  252. have used STwriter.  It has been improved a lot, but is still part of the
  253. public domain.  It is not a wysiwyg, but has a lot of features such
  254. as 2 column printing and mail merge.  I still use it a lot.

  278. What does it mean when uudecode gives the message "short file"?  Obviously
  279. it is an error of some sort, because the files extracted are cut off.  I also
  280. sometimes get an error simply stated "Error 0".  This occurs after a previous
  281. part has failed.  Does uudecode add to a previous file sometimes?  If I try
  282. to get the binary again, will it still fail, or is the error perhaps
  283. generated in the mail transfer?  Any info is appreciated.
